Senator Steve Martin represents the 11th Legislative district in the Virginia Senate, which includes a majority of Chesterfield County and all of the city of Colonial Heights. He has served in the Virginia Senate since his special election in 1994. Prior to that, he served in the House of Delegates since his election to that body in 1987.Throughout these years of service Steve has focused on pro-family issues and he has been extensively involved in health care and education.

Senator Martin holds several chairmanships, including the Privileges and Elections Standing Committee It is this committee that reviews election laws and constitutional amendments. He is also a member of the Senate Education and Health Committee where he chairs the Health Professions Subcommittee. Additionally, Senator Martin serves as Vice Chairman of the Joint Commission on Healthcare and Chairman of the Behavioral Health Subcommittee. He is also active in a number of national organizations and serves on commissions and committees that promote and study health care issues.
